Frequently Answered Questions

What is Fords Wrestling?

Fords Wrestling is a fully insured non-profit private wrestling club that looks to develop wrestling skills in young athletes while providing a fun environment.  While skill development is important, there are valuable lessons on hard work, competition and fitness that we want our athletes to understand.  Most of all, we want our kids to enjoy the experience and develop friendships that go far beyond the mat.

The coaching staff is committed to balancing competitiveness and maintaining a positive experience for all team members.  Although we will always compete to win, it is not win at all costs.  This training will help your child to prepare for Middle School and High School wrestling.

We welcome all wrestlers to join our club whether they are brand new or have years of experience.

Who is leading the club?

The club was formed in early fall of 2016 by a group of coaches and parents who wanted to be part of an organization that aligned to the guiding principles of instruction, transparency, and collaboration.  A Board of Directors was formed and continues to develop.  Currently there are 5 board members and we are looking to add two more.  Currently, the board members are:

  • Joe Danisi - President
  • Matt Thomas - Vice President
  • Adam Campbell - Treasurer
  • Blake Cooper - Secretary
  • Joe Hoban - Head Coach

All board meetings will be posted and open to all members of the club.

How will Fords Wrestlers compete?

There are two ways that our athletes can compete against other clubs.  First, we are a member of the Delaware River Wrestling League and will participate in weekly meets. These meets are typically with one or two other clubs in the Philadelphia area.

You also will have the opportunity to register and compete in tournaments.  The level of competition at the tournaments ranges from first year to open tournaments and our coaching staff will help guide you in making that decision.

Do you have a relationship with Haverford High School wrestling program?

We continue to work closely with both the high school and middle school programs and will maintain that relationship going forward.

What is the practice schedule?

Fords Wrestling will conduct practices at Haverford Middle School and Haverford High School on Mondays and Wednesdays. The team will be split into 3 rooms to maximize the amount of time we can spend with each wrestler. Room assignments will be determined by the coaches based on age and experience.

After registration is complete, we will finalize the practice schedule.

How much is the registration fee?

Our objective is to provide an opportunity to all who want to participate.

Registration gives you full access to Fords Wrestling practices.  Fords Wrestling also provides the wrestling singlet for your wrestler.  No need for the families to size and order separately! Registration also provides you with a USA Wrestler number.  The cost of registration is $150. We are offering a $25 discount to those that register before October 19.

After 2 weeks if you and your child determine wrestling isn’t for you your registration fee will be refunded.

We want to provide an environment that encourages our young wrestlers to excel not just on the mat, but in life. The wrestling room and mat is a great place to learn many life lessons.  The support of our wrestling families is critical in that regard.  During the season, please feel free to reach out to any of us with any questions, concerns, or ideas that help your children and our club succeed.
